Adani earns Rs 1,002 cr a day, now Asia’s 2nd richest: IIFL Wealth-Hurun India report – Economic Times

NEW DELHI: Gautam Adani & family earned Rs 1,002 crore a day in the last one year to quadruple their wealth to Rs 5,05,900 crore from Rs 1,40,200 crore a year-ago. That made them the second wealthiest family in India and helped Adani, 59, topple China’s bottled water producer Zhong Shanshan as Asia’s second richest, the IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich List, 2021 showed.

This is the first time that both Gautam

and his Dubai-based brother Vinod Shantilal Adani have broken into the top 10 of the IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich List, 2021, which showed Adani climbed two spots to the No 2 spot, while his brother Vinod Shantilal Adani & family moved up 12 spots to rank eighth richest Indian. The Vinod Adani family’s fortunes stood at Rs 1,31,600 crore, up 21.2 per cent.

In comparison, India’s richest family of Mukesh Ambani earned Rs 169 crore a day during the year, and their fortunes rose 9 per cent to Rs 7,18,000 crore, the IIFL Wealth-Hurun India report showed.

Top 10 in IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich List 2021

HCL’s Shiv Nadar and his family saw their wealth surge 67 per cent to Rs 2,36,600 crore. Their ranking remained the same as last year’s. Delhi-based Nadars earned Rs 260 crore a day.

London-based LN Mittal, 71, and his family, who owns ArcelorMittal, saw their wealth zoom 187 per cent to Rs 1,74,400 crore. They earned Rs 312 crore a day during the year.

Pune-based Cyrus S Poonawalla, 80, and his family, who owns Serum Institute of India, earned Rs 190 crore a day, helping the family’s fortunes to climb 74 per cent to Rs 1,63,700 crore.

Mumbai-based Radhakishan Damani & family, who owns Avenue Supermarts, earned Rs 184 crore a day and were ranked seventh richest family in India. Kumar Mangalam Birla, 54, and his family are the ninth richest with Rs 1,22,200 crore in fortunes, up 230 per cent YoY. The Mumbai-based family earned Rs 240 crore a day.

Meanwhile, the San Jose-based Jay Chaudhry, who leads California-based enterprise cloud security firm ZSCALER, came in at the 10th place on the list as his family’s wealth climbed 85 per cent to Rs 1,21,600 crore. Chaudhry earned Rs 153 crore a day in 2021.

The tenth annual IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich List 2021 used September 15, 2021, as cut-off date and the rate of exchange to the dollar was taken at Rs 73.46. The list featured only Indians, defined as those born or brought up in India.
