All deaths not due to negligence, says Kota’s chief medical officer

NEW DELHI: All the 112 infant deaths have not been because of medical negligence or lack of essential medical equipment at J K Lon hospital, Kota’s chief medical health officer explained during a hearing at National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) on Tuesday.

BS Tanwar submitted a detailed reply before NCPCR with statistics on the number of pregnant women, anaemic expectant mothers and low-birth weight babies in Kota district. “We need to see case by case and examine it in detail to know the lacunae,” Tanwar told the commission.

According to sources, Tanwar said several infants were brought from neighbouring districts such as Madhya Pradesh and could have been exposed to extreme cold during transit.
