In a tragic incident today, a 5-storey building in Bangalore’s Kasuvanahalli area collapsed. In the incident, it is reported that at least three people have been killed and around seven people are feared to be injured. As per the latest assessment of the site by the police, many more people are feared to be trapped inside the rubble. The people who are injured in the incident are taken to a hospital and the rescue operations are still underway in Bangalore’s building. The police said that the one injured in the incident is very critical.
The reason cited by the police for the collapse of the building was that the building was being constructed in Kasavanahalli, Bangalore. The time of the collapse is said to be around 3.30 in the afternoon. Officials from Fire department, police rushed to the spot immediately and started the rescue operation as soon as possible. Even the locals joined in the rescue operations and helped police and Fire department officials. As of now, it is reported that at least two labourers have been found dead under the rubble. As per Bangalore Mayor, R Sampath Raj, the third person died while he was been taken to the hospital.
Abdul Ahad, the deputy commissioner of police from the Whitefield division of Bangalore said that the owner of the building is Rafique from HSR Layout. While speaking to the media, Ahad said, “As of now, we are collecting more information. The collapsed building was developed to accommodate paying guests, however, later the owner tried to convert it into a commercial building.” It is reported that the construction of the building had started six years ago. However, later, the construction came to a halt midway. The deputy commissioner said that it was no later than six months ago when the construction began again. The labourers who died in the incident were from other states as well.
Bangalore Mayor Raj said that the building collapsed due to the weak foundation. Raj said, “The rescue team is at work now….the rescuers have gone inside the collapsed building. We will soon start the necessary action against the owner and even the contractor will not be spared however our top priority is to rescue people trapped under the debris.”
