Delhi IGI Airport gets US, UK touch! Policemen trained in foreign accents to assist foreign travellers

Flyers from US, UK and African continent will be greeted by policemen in their own accents at the Delhi Indira Gandhi International airport! With an aim to boost policemen’s confidence to communicate with travellers from the US, UK and Africa to Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, they have been imparted knowledge in foreign accents. A crash course workshop was organised in this regard, according to a HT report. Such programmes will continue.

Policemen have said that they faced the biggest hurdle in form of foreign accents to help and communicate with foreign travellers. Under this three-day workshop, policemen were given teachings on how to pronounce words. They were also asked to read articles and watch video links. Policemen were advised to watch shows on TV channels of US and British. Budget airline IndiGo hosted training programme in Gurugram.

Similar steps like the aforementioned one has been taken in order to check inconvenience caused to passengers at Delhi airport. A separate electronic kiosk was set up at the international arrival hall of the airport to take feedback from flyers over customs clearance. Feedback over polite and courteous interaction and time taken to clear customs formalities are taken into account.

Measures like these are putting Delhi airport at par with other international airports of advanced countries as well. Indira Gandhi International Airport was ranked as the 16th busiest in the world. According to Airports Council International (ACI), Delhi airport handled 6.34 crore passengers in 2017. IGI airport in Delhi has found its place among the top 20 busiest aerodromes across the world given the number of passengers handled on an annual basis.

The aviation market in India is considered as one of the fastest growing ones in the world. The Delhi airport plays a key role and has three terminals- T1, T2 and T3. While T1 and T2 are being used for domestic purpose, T3 serves to both domestic as well as international flights.
