When it comes to main course nothing can replace a boneless chicken biryani, Swiggy’s order trends show.

Biryani continued to be the most favored dish among those who used the app for a third year in a row confirming the popularity of the rice dish often cooked with variety of meat and vegetables.

In fact, Indians ordered a lot of Biryani throughout the year averaging to 95 biryani orders per minute or 1.6 per second.

However, the more basic khichdi saw unusual interest among diners with a 128% jump in orders between January to November.

“A considerable increase was noticed during the festive month of Navaratri,” Swiggy said.

This trend was also seen in more demand for simple, home-cooked meals that were ordered through the year.

“A variety of thalis like methi malai paneer, dhaba dal with rice and chapatis thali, mini dosa, idli, vada and sambar thali have found a special place on consumers’ meal tables,” Swiggy noted in its annual analysis which is reflective of what consumers in India are ordering inside their homes and offices.
