Google announces dates for I/O 2020 event. Android 11, Pixel 4a launch expected

Google has officially announced the dates for its I/O event 2020. The search giant on its event page confirmed that the annual conference set to take place from May 12 to May 14, 2020 at the Shoreline Amphitheatre, which is in Mountain View near Google’s HQ.

Reports suggest that the annual developer event of Google will witness some significant announcements including latest Pixel phones and the much-anticipated Android 11 OS release. Among the phones, Google is expected to unveil Pixel 4a just like it announced the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL at I/O event last year.

Alphabet and Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai took to Twitter on Friday to announce the dates of the I/O event. The tweet by Pichai came after Google teased the dates on its event page. The teaser included a puzzle that ultimately joins together to reveal the dates of the event.

The upcoming Google Pixel 4a, which is expected to be the successor of the budget Pixel 3a, is likely to have a punch-hole display. Google launched the Pixel 4 in October, but it decided not to release it in India.

According to leaks, the Pixel 4a has tried to match the design of the standard Google Pixel 4 very closely. However, there is some catch to it. The Pixel 4a will have a single camera sensor instead of Pixel 4’s dual-camera setup at the back. Apart from that, it is going to have the rear fingerprint sensor, 3.5mm headphone jack, and bottom-facing speakers. The latest Pixel variant will also have the USB-C port.

Size-wise, the Pixel 4a may come with 5.7- or 5.8-inch display and it will utilise the punch-hole for the front-facing camera sensor in order to make the bezels appear much slimmer compared to its predecessor Pixel 3a, suggest the leaks.

Apart from the Pixel 4a, Google’s major apps such as Google Chrome, Maps, Search, and YouTube are also likely to receive some new updates at developer event.
