In a record scale-up, Mahindra’s Scorpio-N gets 1L bookings in under 30 mins, grosses Rs 18,000 crore – Times of India

NEW DELHI: In one of the biggest openings for a new car model, Mahindra’s new Scorpio-N model got over 25,000 bookings in just one minute of opening of bookings and then raced on to 1 lakh bookings in just under half an hour, grossing over Rs 18,000 crore in terms of potential sales value.
This is one of the biggest scale-ups for a new model, especially as the rush comes even before deliveries begin.
The company, which has seen huge waiting backlog on some of its models such as the Thar and the XUV7OO, said that customer deliveries of the new model will begin from September 26. “Over 20,000 units are planned for delivery by December 2022.”
The Scorpio-N and its variants have been priced between Rs 12 lakh and Rs 19 lakh for the petrol versions, and Rs 12.5 lakh and Rs 19.5 lakh for diesel (all prices ex-showroom). Mahindra said that the company will sell the first 25,000 units at the ‘introductory’ prices that it had announced, while others will come at the price prevailing at the time of delivery.
The huge rush had also resulted in a technical glitch at the payment gateway, and the company assured customers that the issue has been taken care of. “The booking website handled the huge rush of orders well, but there was a brief glitch with the payment gateway provider. Mahindra would like to assure customers that their time stamp prior to payment is duly recorded on the booking platform, so each customer will have their rightful place in the order sequence and accordingly the first 25,000 will be considered for introductory prices based on this sequence.”
Unveiling the vehicle in late June, Rajesh Jejurikar — Executive Director of Auto & Farm Sectors at Mahindra & Mahindra — said the company is confident of consolidating its position in the premium SUV market with the Scorpio-N just as it works towards creating additional production capacities to cut down the long queues on bookings of other models.
The Scorpio-N is competing with models such as the Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus, Hyundai Alcazar and its own sibling XUV7OO.
The company said that the N on the new model denotes the transformation of the product and the Scorpio brand over the past two decades.
