IPL 2019: Can a change in name change fortunes for Delhi Capitals?

Last year Shreyas Iyer was named the captain of the team after Gautam Gambhir decided to drop himself from the team after a string of failures.

Delhi Daredevils have rebranded themselves as Delhi Capitals and would be hoping that the change in 2019 would be a positive one for the team which has never won the IPL title so far. The Delhi team has not been able to make a mark in the IPL for almost a decade now. The team was never short of star power but somehow failed to deliver at the right time. It will be hard for fans to believe that players like AB De Villiers, Virender Sehwag, Kevin Petersen and Yuvraj Singh had been a part of the Delhi Daredevils at some point. Even after having such brilliant players, the Delhi Daredevils have never gone on to play IPL final even once.

The Delhi Capitals have roped in former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly as the team advisor for IPL 2019. He will be working with Ricky Ponting who is the head coach of the team. Delhi Capitals added Shikhar Dhawan to their squad this year who was a part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2018 edition of the IPL.

The Delhi team has some of the exciting young guns including Prithvi Shaw, Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer. While all these players have already played for the national team, they will be looking to cement their place on the basis of their performance in IPL 2019.

In the bowling department, Delhi Capitals have bought local boy Ishant Sharma for Rs 1.10 crore. Ishant Sharma could be the spearhead of the bowling attack for the team this year. Sharma is an experienced player and can bring a lot to the table for the Delhi Capitals. Trent Boult and Kagiso Rabada will also be very important for the team if they are looking to make an impact in IPL 2019.

The Delhi Capitals are yet to announce the captain for IPL 2019. Last year Shreyas Iyer was named the captain of the team after Gautam Gambhir decided to drop himself from the team after a string of failures.
