Maruti Suzuki has just launched the new S-Presso hatchback with a new DualJet petrol engine and idle-stop technology. With a starting price of Rs. 4.25 lakh, the new S-Presso features a 1.0 liter-3 cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine with dual injectors for each of its three cylinders. The engine now gets idle-stop technology, which shuts it off whenever the vehicle is stationary for more than a few seconds. Upon the driver depressing the clutch or the accelerator, the engine restarts seamlessly. Idle-stop technology is meant to cut down on fuel consumption at traffic stops.
This technology also helps cut down tail pipe emission. The new motor also gets dual VTVT (Maruti’s terminology for variable valve technology). Together, idle-stop, dual injectors and dual VTVT make the S-Presso upto 17 % more fuel efficient (AMT), and 14 % more fuel efficient in the manual trim. 1 The petrol engine is paired to a 5 speed manual gearbox as standard while a 5 speed automated manual transmission (AGS) is offered as an option. Revised mileage figures stand at 25.30 Km/l in Vxi(O)/Vxi+(O) AGS, 24.76 km/l in Vxi/Vxi+ MT and 24.12 km/l in Std/Lxi MT trims. The 1 liter K-Series petrol motor makes 66 Bhp of peak power at 5,500 rpm and 89 Nm of peak torque at 3,500 rpm. Both figures are marginally lower than those produced by the older S-Presso (67 Bhp-90 Nm).
Apart from the new, tech-packed engine, the 2022 Maruti Suzuki S-Presso gets a slew of feature additions. ESP (electronic stability program) – a key active safety feature – and hill hold technology are now offered on the AGS variants of the S-Presso. Electrically adjustable wing mirrors are also offered on the higher trims of the car while a new cabin air filter has also been added for better air filtration. As for standard safety features, the S-Presso gets ABS, EBD, twin airbags, high-speed warning, reverse parking sensors and seat belt reminders across trims. Creature comforts include a power steering, air conditioning and a touchscreen infotainment system.
