The much controversial Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial, Padmaavat is on its way to make a remarkable dent at the box office. Starring Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh, the movie is set to enter the coveted Rs 300 crore club – the numbers tell us so! Popular Bollywood analyst, Taran Adarsh took to Twitter to write about the latest development. In his tweet, Adarsh writes, #Padmaavat continues its REMARKABLE RUN… [Week 3] Fri 3.50 cr, Sat 6.30 cr, Sun 8 cr, Mon 3.20 cr, Tue 3.75 cr, Wed 4.50 cr. Total: ₹ 265.25 cr. India biz. Padmaavat has faced a lot before it could make to the theaters. From protests to changing the name, the movie has been the face of the controversy since last few months.

The movie is also the only film to have entered the coveted Rs 200 cr club with a female protagonist. But it didn’t happen as easy it seems to be! Bhansali directorial was mired in the controversies over the role of Rani Padmavati and Khilji. Karni Sena and other organisations claimed that the movie had distorted the historical facts and was an insult to Rani Padmavati. There were theatres which refrained to screen Padmaavat just to avoid unwanted protests from the Karni Sena. In fact, the movie was only released at selective cinema halls – which perhaps, also affected its collection but yet the movie was able to mint in the huge amount.

The protest against the movie had reached to such a height that a bounty of Rs 5 crore was kept on Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Another outfit in Uttar Pradesh had announced another Rs 50 lakh bounty. Some protesters had even fired gunshots in protest. The protesters had blocked the entry to the Chittorgarh Fort which is known to be the residence of Rani Padmini’s Palace. Even a song in the film which shows actor Deepika Padukone as Queen Padmini dancing in a courtyard was also criticised. On the day of release, a flock of men vandalized malls and created ruckus at different locations. Yet, the movie has been able to garner huge amount and it remains to be seen that how many more records will the movie break.
