Philips Action Fit Sports SHQ1405BL: Cheap, but good

If you’re buying new fitness-focused headphones in 2020, you’re probably looking for wireless ones. However, Philips evidently believes there’s a market for wired headphones that are meant for runners and other fitness enthusiasts. The company’s ActionFit Sports SHQ1405BL is aimed at this market, at an affordable price of 1,499.

With audio, the lower you go in the price tier, poorer the audio quality becomes. That said, the ActionFit Sports does endeavour to give you value for money. They have an in-line microphone for taking phone calls, and even a clip, which attaches the headphones to your clothes, which is convenient for running. They’re also water resistant and come with three different types of earbuds to customize the fit for your ear. We found neither of these suitable for ours though, which is common for in-ear headphones and nothing that should be held against Philips. Their strength is in the fact that they deliver above-average audio quality. They’re not bass-heavy, which might disappoint some users. But then bass isn’t the be-all and end-all of music either.

While the ActionFit Sports may not be meant for bass-driven music, they won’t fail there either. For instance, you will hear the drum hits on Imagine Dragons’ Bet My Life, but it won’t be the effective, thumping bass you want in such a song. It’s just enough to keep up the tempo, but not enough to get your heart pounding. On the other hand, the headphones are really pleasant(if you take price into account) in mid and high frequencies. Wailing violins sound really good, as do vocal tracks, like Jenny of the Oldstones from Game of Thrones.

The real problem with the ActionFit Sports is that while they’re good, you can get the same quality at cheaper prices.

The Sennheiser CX 275s have the same features, similar audio signature, better bass response and cost about a 100 bucks less. If you want emphasis on bass only, Boat’s Bassheads series is better for you, and also cheaper.
