Realme 5, Realme 5 Pro launched in India, prices start ₹9,999

After just four months of launching the Realme 3 Pro, the Chinese smartphone brand refreshed the series with two new smartphones—the Realme 5 and Realme 5 Pro. Realme has skipped the number four because it is considered inauspicious by the Chinese.

The Realme 5 is priced at 9,999 for the base 3GB/32GB variant. The smartphone also comes in 4GB/64GB and 4GB/128GB variants that are priced at 10,999 and 11,999. The smartphone goes on its first sale on 27 August at 12 Noon.

The Realme 5 Pro also comes in three variants—4GB/64GB starting at 13,999, 6GB/64GB priced at 14,999 and finally 8GB/128GB priced at 16,999.

Realme CEO Madhav Sheth also announced new accessories and an upcoming smartphone at the launch event in New Delhi.

The Realme Iconic Case for Realme 5 Series will be available in India on 21 September at 399. The Realme Tote bag and Realme Buds 2 were also announced at 1,199 and 599 respectively. Both of these would go on sale starting 4 September.

Realme’s much awaited 64MP camera smartphone now has an official name—Realme XT. Sheth said it will be launched late-September with four cameras at the back.

Let’s talk about the specifications of the smartphones launched today:

Realme 5

The Realme 5 flaunts a 6.5-inch LCD display with full HD resolution. The smartphone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 chipset paired with up to 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. It comes with four cameras at the back in a 12MP+8MP+2MP+2MP configuration. The 12MP primary sensor is fitted with a wide angle lens while the 8MP sensor has an ultra-wide lens. One of the 2MP cameras acts as a dedicated macro sensor while the other one helps capture depth information. A 13MP front facing camera sits under a dew-drop shaped notch on the display.

It is backed by a 5,000mAh battery that can be charged with a 10W battery charge via a MicroUSB port. It also comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Realme 5 Pro

The Realme 5 Pro has a smaller 6.3-inch display with FHD+ resolution. It runs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 712 processor paired with up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. This too comes with a quad-camera setup, but instead of the 12MP sensor, it has a 48MP primary. The rest of the rear camera specifications are the same. At the front, it has a 16MP selfie camera that also sits in a similar dew-drop notch.

It is fuelled by a smaller 4,035mAh battery. It ships with the proprietary VOOC Flash Charge 3.0 charger capable of pumping in 20W of power via a USB type-C port.

Both smartphones run Android Pie 9.0 with Oppo’s ColorOS6 running atop.

While buying the smartphones, Jio users would be able to avail benefits worth 7,000 with the handsets, along with a no-cost EMI for six months. PayTM UPI users can avail up to 2,000 cashback and get free Paytm First membership worth 750 for free on the purchase of the smartphones from realme.com.
