Redmi 8A Dual vs Realme C3: Battle of specifications in budget segment

Xiaomi’s sub-brand, Redmi recently launched Redmi 8A Dual. With the launch this phone the company is aiming to balance the scales with Realme C3, another budget smartphone that is having a successful run in the segment. Since Realme’s launch, Xiaomi is having a tough time maintaining its dominance in the budget as well mid-range segment. While the company is still in the lead when it comes to market share, their growth has flat-lined. On the other hand, Realme posted a growth of 263% last quarter and is quickly accumulating a substantial marketshare.

Redmi 8A Dual and Realme C3 are the two contenders in the budget segment that can influence their respective brand’s market share in a big way. Here are the specifications and features that are on offer on both these budget smartphones.

Performance

One difference at the core of these devices is the processor. While the Realme C3 is powered by MediaTek Helio G70, Redmi 8A Dual is powered by a Snapdragon 439. The processors on both devices are built on 12nm architecture.

The octacore MediaTek chip comes with four 1.95GHz Cortex A-53 cores and four1.45 GHz Cortex A53 cores. The Snapdragon chipset is also an octacore chip with two 2.0GHz Cortex A75 chip and six 1.7GHz Cortex A55 cores. For graphics, the Snapdragon 439 chip is paired with Adreno 505 while the MediaTek chip comes with Mali-G52 2EEMC2.

Camera

Redmi 8A Dual and Realme C3 both feature a dual camera setup. Both the devices feature a primary sensor coupled with 2MP depth sesor to create a bokeh effect for portrait images. The primary lens on the Redmi 8A Dual is a 13MP unit with f/2.2 aperture. The Realme C3 comes with a 12MP sensor with f/1.8 aperture.

The front camera is an 8MP unit on the Redmi device whereas the Realme C3 gets a 5MP module. Both devices support portrait mode on the primary as well as front facing cameras.

Display

The Realme C3 features a slightly bigger display in comparison to the Redmi 8A Dual. The Redmi device comes with a 6.22-inch display whereas the Realme C3 comes with a 6.5-inch display. While the Redmi 8A Dual screen is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 5, the Realme C3 sports a Gorilla Grass 3. Realme C3 can brighten the display up to 480 nits whereas Redmi 8A Dual is capped at 400 nits.

Battery

When it comes to battery, both the phones have an impressive 5000mAh unit. However, the Redmi 8A Dual gets slightly faster 18W charging compared to Realme C3’s 10W charging speed. Xiaomi’s device also supports reverse charging on the Redmi 8A Dual.

Pricing

Just like other aspects of these phones, the pricing is also very similar. The Redmi 8A Dual starts at a price of 6,499 which comes with 2GB RAM and 32GB storage. The higher variant will be sold at 6,999 and will offer 3GB RAM and 32GB of storage. The Realme C3 is priced at 6,999 for the 3GB RAM and 32GB of storage and the higher variant comes with 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage.

Availability

The Realme C3 is available on the native website as well as Flipkart. Xiaomi Redmi 8A Dual on the other hand is available Mi online and offline stores as well as Amazon India’s website. The device will first go on sale on 18th February.
