Mid-Day Market Update: Sensex, Nifty Rise; RIL, HDFC, HCL Technologies Lead Advance
India’s stock benchmarks advanced, aided by gains in information technology, utilities, power and realty stocks
The S&P BSE Sensex rose 0.25% to 60,545.79. The NSE Nifty 50 also advanced by similar magnitude to 18,039.70. HCL Technologies Ltd. had the largest increase, rising 4.1%. In midday trading, 20 of 50 shares rose, while 30 fell.
The broader indices outperformed their larger peers with the S&P BSE MidCap rising 0.33% and S&P BSE SmallCap adding nearly 0.7%. Fifteen of the 19 sectoral indices compiled by BSE Ltd. advanced with S&P BSE Realty gaining nearly 1.5%. On the flipside, the S&P BSE Metal index fell 1.75%.
The market breadth was skewed in the favour of bulls. About 2,090 stocks advanced, 1,281 declined, 84 remained unchanged.
