: Indian equity benchmarks Sensex and Nifty50 held on to opening gains amid volatile trade on Tuesday as caution prevailed amid increasing cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19. Gains in financial and oil & gas shares were offset by losses in IT and healthcare stocks. Broader markets were largely up, with the Nifty Midcal 100 up 0.2 percent and its smallcap counterpart flat.
