Sunil A. D’Souza set to take over as MD&CEO of Tata Global Beverages

New Delhi: Tata Global Beverages Ltd (TGBL) on Friday announced the appointment Sunil A. D’Souza as managing director and CEO of the global beverages major with effect from April 4, 2020. D’Souza is currently managing director at consumer durables maker Whirlpool of India Ltd.

D’Souza will take over the role from the company’s current managing director and chief executive officer Ajoy Kumar Misra who is set to retire from the post on 31 March, 2020, the company said in a filing to the stock exchange on Friday.

“We wish to inform you that the Board of Directors, at its meeting held on December 20, 2019, based on the recommendation of the nomination & remuneration committee and subject to the approval of the shareholders, has appointed Sunil A. D’Souza as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Company for a period of five years, effective from April 4, 2020 to April 3, 2025,” the company said in its statement.

On Friday, the company also announced the appointment of Ajit Krishna Kumar as chief operating officer of TGBL.

“Sunil D’Souza brings strong domain knowledge of consumer products businesses, and a successful track record of leadership. His experience and expertise will be very valuable in shaping and developing Tata Global Beverages for the future,” N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Global Beverages, said in the statement to the BSE.

D’Souza’s last four years at the helm of Whirpool have delivered strong growth and industry leading financial returns, the statement said.

The IIM (Calcutta) alumnus started his career with Brooke Bond Lipton India Ltd. in 1993. Over the last several years he has worked across beverage companies such as PepsiCo India.

“Prior to his leadership stint at Whirlpool India, he has served in several leadership roles in Pepsico. During his fifteen year stint in Pepsico, he has handled all commercial aspects of the company’s foods and beverages portfolio, and has led the business successfully in a large cluster of Asian countries.”

Tata Global Beverages Ltd sells packaged beverages such as Tata Tea, Tetley, Himalayan natural mineral water, Tata Water Plus, Tata Gluco+, Good Earth Tea and Eight O’clock coffee.

It has a presence in over 40 countries globally with an annual turnover of $1.4 billion. The company has over 2,000 employees as part of its branded business.
