NEW DELHI: Maruti Suzuki India in a regulatory filed on Monday informed that it would re-start the production of vehicles at its third plant in Gujarat on May 25.
The Gujarat plant is owned by Suzuki Motor Corporation and manufactures vehicles for Maruti on a contract basis.
The largest carmakers resumed operations earlier in May after the Covid-19 lockdown was partially relaxed.
“Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has been informed by Suzuki Motor Gujarat Pvt Limited (SMG) that they would re-start production of vehicles from the 25th of May 2020, strictly in accordance with the Government regulations and guidelines and by observing the Company’s own concern for the highest standards of safety. SMG manufactures cars on a contract basis for MSIL,” the regulatory filing noted.
Apart from the Gujarat plant, Maruti Suzuki has two more production facilities in India, located in Gurugram and Manesar. Operations started at these plants on May 12 and May 19 respectively.
Both Manesar and Gurugram plants have an installed capacity to churn out over 15.5 lakh vehicles per annum.
The Gurugram facility rolls out models like S-Cross, Vitara Brezza, Ignis and Super Carry light commercial vehicles.
The Manesar plant, on the other hand, produces high selling models like Alto, Swift, Dzire, S-Presso, Ertiga and Baleno.
MSI had suspended work at both of its plants on March 22 after a nationwide lockdown was announced to fight the spread of coronavirus pandemic in the country.
However, days after opening Covid-19 impacted the Manesar plant. An employee in the unit tested positive for novel coronavirus infection on May 22.
