TVS enters electric two-wheeler segment, launches iQube at ₹1.15 lakh

Bengaluru: TVS Motor Company – India’s second largest scooter manufacturer- on Saturday unveiled its first electric scooter, iQube, at a price of 1.15 lakh. The move comes days after Bajaj Auto Ltd launched its first electric scooter, Chetak, at a price range of 1 lakh and 1.5 lakh, in the domestic market.

The union government has been urging vehicle manufacturers to increase their investments in development and manufacturing of electric vehicles to reduce pollution and import of crude oil.

The Venu Srinivasan-led company will start selling the electric scooter in Bengaluru from January 27, and will have an an initial manufacturing capacity of 1,000 units per month.

The iCube electric scooter will have a top speed of 78 kilometres per hour and will be able run 75 kilometres in full charge.

The vehicle was unveiled by union minister for Road, Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari and Chief Minister of Karnataka, B.S. Yeddyurappa.

“TVS Motor is driven by customer centric innovation. Our focus on the green and connected youth of India, is embodied, in the first of the TVS electric portfolio,” said Venu Srinivasan, chairman, TVS Motor Company.

“TVS iQube Electric is a blend of an advanced electric drivetrain and the next gen TVS SmartXonnect platform.”
