GUWAHATI: Assam minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, amid widespread protests over CAA, that BJP would come back to power in the state in 2021 assembly polls by winning at least 100 out of 126 assembly seats. He also said that contrary to claims by some people, only about 400,000 people in the state would be eligible to apply for citizenship under the CAA.
Addressing BJP workers after taking part in a peace rally in Barpeta on Wednesday, Sarma said on December 27 BJP will organise a peace rally in Jagiroad which will be attended by 50,000 people. On December 29, he said, the party will organise a programme in Sualkucki.
Sarma said, “rumour is that 1.3 crore people will come to Assam. Due to CAA only 5.4 lakh people will be eligible.”
