Xiaomi Mi Band 4 launches tomorrow: Check out how it compares to Mi Band 3

Xiaomi is set to launch the Mi Band 4 affordable fitness tracking bracelet on Tuesday. The fitness tracker is expected to come with a full-colour 0.95-inch OLED display, NFC and voice-aided controls.

Xiaomi India MD Manu Kumar Jain teased the launch of the device via Twitter last week. In the tweet he wrote: Come September 17th, we will unveil a product that you have been waiting ‘4’.

The Mi Band 4 will replace the current generation of the device in India, the Mi Band 3. The Mi Band 4 was previously launched in China in June at 169 Yuan (about 1,700) for the variant without NFC, while the one with it was priced at 229 Yuan (about 2,300). It’s India pricing and availability will be announced at the time of its launch, but we expect the band to be priced under 2,000.

The Chinese variant offers a 0.95-inch AMOLED display panel that provides information about a user’s physical activity as well as notifications of text messages and voice calls directly from a connected phone. The display can also serve several other purposes. For instance, it can be used to find the phone, switch a music track, provide you with live weather and stock updates. Thanks to the colour display, it comes with up to 77 colourful watch faces. It can also display QR codes, so Xiaomi has integrated a payments mode to the smart band.

It also boasts a microphone for voice assistance. This means users can interact with the smart band via touch as well as voice commands.

To help monitor physical activities like cycling, exercise, running, swimming and walking, the Mi Band 4 comes with a six-axis accelerometer. It can even identify various swimming strokes and offer swolf scores, a user especially beneficial for swimmers.

The Mi Band 4 also comes with NFC connectivity, so it can connect to other devices much quicker. In terms of battery life, the Mi Band is rated to deliver 20 days of battery life on a single charge.

The outgoing Mi Band 3 is currently priced at 1,999 and comes with a bunch of clever features including the ability to receive notifications and read WhatsApp messages on the screen. It has a recessed control button which lets you navigate the watch and even accept and decline calls. It comes with Bluetooth 4.2 connectivity and is powered by a 110mAh Li-polymer battery, which Xiaomi claims to provide 20 days of battery life. It is water resistant up to 50 m.
