WhatsApp feature: How to pin chats on top

WhatsApp has gradually emerged as one of the most popular messaging apps all over the world. With more than 1.5 billion subscribers and counting, the chat app is the most preferred way to interact with friends, professionals and even send media across each other.

For this reason, the Facebook-owned messaging keeps adding a bevy of features on its Android and iOS devices to provide its customers with smooth messaging experience. Hence, it also has one less-known feature that can turn out to be really useful for those who want quick access to important chats the moment they open WhatsApp.

The ‘Pinned Chat’ feature does just the same for you. It pins the more important and quickly accessible chats on the top, so that you do not have to go through the pain of either searching for the chat on the Search bar or scrolling through your numerous chats until you stumble across the particular window.

Here’s how to pin chats on WhatsApp:

Pinning a chat on WhatsApp right top is easy and requires a single step.

-For Android users, simply long-press on the chat you want to pin and once you do that, a pin icon emerges on the top bar of the app. Tap on it and the chat will be pinned and placed right on top of all other chats regardless of the messages received on other non-pinned chats.

-For iPhone users, rather than long-pressing on a chat, you have to right swipe on the chat you want to pin. The option will appear beside the ‘Mark as unread’ option and you will able to pin it by tapping the pin icon.

For iPhone users, simply swipe right on the chat and select the option to pin

-To unpin a chat, follow the same method of either long-pressing or swiping right on the pinned chat for Android and iPhone users, respectively.

It is important to note here that WhatsApp allows only three chats at a time that can be pinned. The chats can either be a personal chat or a group chat.

The lineup of your chats will change accordingly. The pinned chats will show first and then the latest chats will follow. It may look a bit odd at first as you might not be able to see the latest chat right on top, but if you have decided to pin a few chats, then you will gradually get used to that layout.

Apart from this, the popular messaging app is reportedly nearing towards the roll-out the much-awaited Dark Mode theme and also its Delete Messages feature, which will automatically delete messages after a particular time period set by the user and make it look like the message never existed. However, there has been no official announcement of the release of these new features yet, so sit tight until further notice.
