Microsoft ended Windows 7 support for all PCs earlier this month after running it nearly for a decade. But, seems like the updates for the OS are still rolling out.
Recently, Microsoft revealed that there is another update for Windows 7 to fix wallpaper issues for some users. “After installing KB4534310, your desktop wallpaper might display as black when set to Stretch,” admits Microsoft. Apparently, the bug affected wallpapers after users selected stretched, fit, fill, tile or centre options for the background image of the computer’s main screen.
Originally, according to The Verge, Microsoft, on its support website had initially rolled out the Windows 7 fix only for “organizations who have purchased Windows 7 Extended Security Updates (ESU),” but it later extended the update for all Windows 7 users and those running Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1.
This fix essentially highlights the fact that the software giant has to still extend the support for Windows 7 for its users just to get the bug fixed, which, on the other hand, seems unusual.
It is unusual for Microsoft to roll out such updates to operating systems after being out of support as customers typically have to purchase ESUs to still use the software. These are either $25 or $50 per machine for businesses still running Windows 7
For now, to mitigate the issue, Microsoft offers this solution: “Set your custom image to an option other than Stretch, such as Fill, Fit, Tile, or Center” or “Choose a custom wallpaper that matches the resolution of your desktop.”
